Survival of the fittest, after all, is often won not by the biggest and the strongest, but by the most flexible. Here are some tips to help you secure your place in the pantheon of successful businesses.

First and foremost, you need to keep up employee morale. Your employees are the backbone of your business, and a lot of businesses don’t properly acknowledge this. Some of the juggernauts, even, are revolving doors of mistreated employees. However, this isn’t a viable business model. It only works with businesses like McDonald’s because of the low barrier to entry for their employees. For a business with any real credentials required, you’d be hard pressed to find a single example of a business that mistreats their employees to that extent. Instead, try making them feel like part of a team. One way to do this is to hold casual Fridays. Casual Fridays, for the uninitiated, is a business tradition in which every Friday is reserved for a day in which the dress code is temporarily forgotten in favor of letting employees were (more or less) whatever they want. So, Johnson can wear that new 6pm outfit he’s been bragging about.

Another important part of running a business is managing business expenses. There’s no getting around business expenses, but you can spend on the expenses in more productive fashion. For instance, take printing. There’s a growing trend in the business world toward going paperless. This is a dual purpose trend. It’s partly motivated by a desire to be eco friendly, but it’s also based on a desire to save money on printing. And, there’s generally not a complaint to be heard. Most customers and employees alike prefer emails to paper invoices, memos, etc.
